The United States has officially launched its new ‘Gold Card’ program, introduced by President Donald Trump, aimed at wealthy individuals seeking U.S. residency. The announcement took place during a roundtable meeting at the White House with top business leaders.
Under this program, individuals can obtain U.S. residency by paying $1 million, while companies may secure residency for their skilled employees by paying $2 million. A dedicated website has been set up for applications, and it is already accepting submissions.
Trump explained that the previously existing EB-5 program, introduced in 1990, had been plagued by long delays and fraudulent activities. The new Gold Card system is intended to replace it with a faster and more transparent process.
Referring to pressure from the business community to reform the visa system, Trump mentioned Apple CEO Tim Cook, who reportedly expressed concerns about losing talented professionals due to visa uncertainty. Trump added that the Gold Card could generate billions of dollars in revenue for the United States.
The White House has started accepting online applications for the Gold Card as of Wednesday afternoon.
