

Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta has issued a stern warning against the misuse of social media platforms for unlawful activities. After reviewing cases across the state, he stated that platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, X, and Instagram are being misused by individuals and organized groups to spread abusive content, politically motivated posts, misinformation, and rumors that could disturb public order. He emphasized that such acts are serious offenses affecting law and order.
Under a strict “Zero Tolerance” policy, the Andhra Pradesh Police have registered 1,549 cases, arrested over 1,344 individuals, and removed 4,529 illegal posts. Legal action is being taken under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including stringent provisions like Section 111 related to organized crime. Authorities also warned that under Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, trial in absentia will be लागू if accused evade investigation. With advanced AI-based monitoring, real-time surveillance, and digital forensics, police are tracking offenders effectively and urged citizens to verify information before sharing online.
