Road accidents have increased across Telangana, but a decline in fatalities has offered some relief. In densely populated areas of Hyderabad such as Ameerpet and Kukatpally, heavy traffic congestion, strict traffic signal control, and an average vehicle speed of under 23 kmph have helped reduce the severity of accidents. Compliance with safety measures like wearing helmets and seat belts has further ensured that life-threatening incidents remain relatively low despite frequent mishaps.
In contrast, the Cyberabad and Rachakonda police commissionerate limits have reported a higher number of accidents and deaths, largely due to overspeeding. Suburban regions under these jurisdictions host major educational institutions, business hubs, and IT companies, with wide roads and expanding residential layouts encouraging high-speed driving. On the Outer Ring Road, where the permitted speed is 120 kmph, vehicles often exceed the limit, leading to fatal accidents within seconds when crashes occur.
According to official data, Telangana records an average of 74 road accidents and 20 deaths every day. While accidents rose by 5 percent compared to last year, fatalities declined by a similar margin, reflecting the impact of awareness campaigns and strict enforcement. In 2025 alone, accidents increased by 1,366 cases, but deaths reduced by 404. With initiatives like the ‘Arrive Alive’ campaign, focused monitoring of black spots, and special attention from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the police department aims to further reduce road accidents and fatalities across the state.
