Polling in Nepal’s general elections is progressing peacefully, with citizens turning out in large numbers since early morning to exercise their democratic right. Voters have been seen queuing at polling stations across the country, reflecting strong public participation. Prominent political leaders are also visiting their respective polling centres to cast their votes.
Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli cast his vote this afternoon at a polling station in Bhaktapur. The elections are being held against the backdrop of recent political unrest, including a Gen Z-led protest movement against the Oli government, during which 77 protesters reportedly lost their lives. Following the turmoil, the government lost power, leading to the announcement of fresh elections. Oli is contesting the polls as the prime ministerial candidate of the Communist Party of Nepal – Unified Marxist–Leninist (CPN-UML).
