The Congress party is moving towards a major organisational restructuring ahead of the assembly elections in seven states next year. The leadership is planning large scale internal changes to strengthen the party structure. Recent developments, including the selection of DK Shivakumar as Karnataka Chief Minister and BK Hariprasad as state PCC president, are seen as early signals of this overhaul.
Senior leaders such as Priyanka Gandhi are expected to be given key responsibilities, after remaining without major organisational roles for the past two years. KC Venugopal is also likely to receive important assignments, while AP Congress in-charge Manickam Tagore may be reassigned. A roadmap was reportedly finalised in a meeting involving Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and KC Venugopal. The restructuring is expected to cover PCC chiefs and state in charges, marking what could be Kharge’s final major organisational reshuffle before the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa, Manipur, and Himachal Pradesh.
