Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Forest and Environment Pawan Kalyan has expressed concern over the death of a male elephant in an electric shock incident in Chittoor district. The incident occurred near Papireddygari Palle, within the Mangalam forest area, where the elephant reportedly came into contact with a low-hanging electric wire connected to a borewell motor at a mango orchard. Officials said the presence of live power supply may have caused the accident.
Pawan Kalyan sought details of the incident from senior Forest Department officials and directed them to conduct a detailed inquiry and submit a report. He instructed officials to carry out the post-mortem as per wildlife rules and prescribed protocols before burying the elephant. He also directed the concerned authorities to ensure that electric wires in wildlife movement areas are maintained at a safe height and to coordinate with the Electricity Department to take preventive measures against similar incidents.
