Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar outlined the progress and reforms undertaken in the Transport Department and RTC during a press conference at Bus Bhavan. He said the Mahalakshmi scheme was launched within 48 hours of the Congress government assuming office, providing free bus travel to women. According to the minister, women have made 347.36 crore free journeys so far, saving Rs 12,167 crore. He said RTC occupancy has also increased from 67% to 89%.

The minister said 2,932 new buses have been purchased, including 1,024 electric buses that are already operating successfully. Another 2,200 electric buses are expected to be introduced in Hyderabad. He also highlighted recruitment initiatives, compassionate appointments, employee welfare measures, modernisation of bus stations, digital ticketing and efforts to expand connectivity through coordination among RTC, Metro and MMTS. He said the government is working to reduce pollution through its EV policy and is taking several measures to improve road safety, public transport services and the overall financial position of RTC.
