The Telangana government has passed the Employees Accountability and Monitoring of Parental Support Bill in the Assembly, aiming to safeguard the rights of neglected parents. The Bill proposes salary deductions from both private and public sector employees who fail to support their parents financially. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy stated that while parental care should ideally be driven by goodwill, the legislation is necessary to protect dependent parents facing neglect.
According to the provisions, parents can file complaints with the district collector, who will act as the adjudicating authority, while a Senior Citizen Commission will handle appeals. However, concerns remain regarding its practical implementation, including possible administrative burden on collectors and whether parents would come forward against their own children. Experts point out that the success of the law depends on a strong enforcement mechanism and public acceptance.
