Tensions have once again escalated between neighboring countries Pakistan and Taliban-led Afghanistan. Early Sunday morning, Pakistan conducted military strikes on militant hideouts along the Afghan border. Reports indicate that nearly 30 people lost their lives in these attacks, and videos related to the strikes have also emerged.
These actions are believed to be retaliatory measures following recent suicide attacks in Pakistan. According to Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, the Pakistani military carried out intelligence-based selective operations targeting seven camps affiliated with Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its allied groups. The strikes targeted madrasas, dairy farms and residential areas in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar, Paktika and Khost provinces. Among the deceased were eight children and six women. Pakistan has not disclosed the exact locations of the attacks.
Meanwhile, Islamabad has repeatedly accused the Taliban-led Afghan government of failing to prevent cross-border attacks, which Kabul has denied. Tensions between the two countries have risen recently due to border clashes and closures. Additionally, in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a suicide attack yesterday claimed the lives of two Pakistani soldiers and five militants, totaling 16 casualties, including a lieutenant colonel and civilians. Several soldiers sustained serious injuries. This marks the third suicide attack in Pakistan within the past 15 days and the second in just five days.
