The Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II, also known as the Warthog, is an older fighter aircraft that the United States Air Force once planned to retire. However, the aircraft has now become very important in operations around the Strait of Hormuz, where it is helping track and counter fast boats linked to Iran.
The A-10 is known for its powerful gun that can fire about 3,900 rounds per minute, making it extremely effective against enemy targets. Because of this strong firepower and its ability to operate at low altitudes, the aircraft can directly support missions in tense sea zones.
Modern fighter jets like the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II are advanced but very expensive to operate. In comparison, the A-10’s strong armor, durability and ability to survive attacks while flying low have made it very useful again. Because of these strengths, this “flying tank” is proving to be a valuable asset for the United States in the region.
