The High Court has given good news to movie lovers by cancelling the parking fee at single screen theatres. The court suspended Government Order No. 121, which earlier allowed theatre owners to collect parking charges. The High Court directed that single screen theatres should provide free parking to viewers, similar to the facilities available in malls and multiplexes. With this decision, people visiting theatres will no longer need to pay the ₹20 parking fee.
Usually, malls and multiplexes provide free parking for customers. However, in 2021, single screen theatre owners approached the government seeking permission to collect parking fees. The government accepted their request and issued GO No. 121, allowing them to charge up to ₹20 for parking.
Later, a young man challenged this decision in the High Court. After hearing the petition, the court ruled that collecting parking fees in single screen theatres is not appropriate and cancelled the government order. As a result, single screen theatres must now provide free parking to moviegoers.
