Former Indian cricket captain and Bengal Cricket Association president Sourav Ganguly has filed a defamation case of ₹50 crore against Uttam Saha, president of an Argentine fan club in Kolkata, following controversial remarks linked to Lionel Messi’s visit to the city. During Messi’s event, chaos erupted after the football icon left the stadium earlier than scheduled, leading angry fans to vandalise chairs. In the aftermath, Saha made serious allegations against Ganguly, claiming he acted as a mediator between Messi and event organiser Shatadru Datta and had business interests linked to the programme.
Strongly denying the allegations, Ganguly stated that Saha made baseless and defamatory statements without any evidence, causing damage to his reputation. He clarified in his police complaint that he attended the Messi event only as a guest and had no official or business association with it. Ganguly also rejected claims regarding financial motives and asserted that he left the stadium disappointed when the situation spiralled out of control.
