A large number of Maoists are expected to surrender before the police in Hyderabad on Friday. According to reports, the surrender will take place at the Command Control Centre in the presence of Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at around 4 PM. As many as 124 Maoists are likely to lay down their arms as part of the government’s efforts to encourage militants to return to the mainstream.
Sources said that the development comes after senior Maoist leader Tippiri Tirupati, also known as Devji, recently surrendered before the government. It is believed that around 16 members associated with his committee will also surrender. The Maoists are expected to hand over nearly 70 weapons to the police. The Chief Minister is likely to reveal complete details during a media interaction in the evening.
