The Government of India has issued a key directive to ensure uninterrupted LPG supply for households across the country. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas invoked the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and issued an executive order dated March 5, 2026 (Ref: M-13017(11)/1/2026-LPG-PNG). According to the order, all Oil Marketing Companies, including Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL), have been instructed to supply the entire available LPG exclusively to domestic consumers.

With immediate effect, LPG supply to commercial, industrial, and petrochemical users has been suspended. The government stated that the move is a precautionary step taken in view of the current disruption in LPG imports, aimed at ensuring uninterrupted supply to households. Officials expressed hope that LPG import supplies will soon be restored and the situation will return to normal.
