The deployment of nearly 150 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), including the Central Reserve Police Force, in West Bengal is being seen as a crucial step to maintain law and order in sensitive regions. For many residents, especially sections of Bengali Hindus, these forces are viewed as a neutral and dependable security presence. This perception stems from growing distrust toward local police, who are often accused of being influenced by the ruling All India Trinamool Congress.
The presence of central forces has helped restore a sense of normalcy in several areas. In regions like Murshidabad, reports indicate that displaced residents are gradually returning home under their protection. The move is also aimed at preventing political and communal violence, particularly during sensitive periods such as elections. However, the deployment reflects the ongoing political tensions between the Bharatiya Janata Party and TMC, with contrasting views over the role of central forces in the state.
