The Centre has initiated discussions on a major electoral reform that could significantly increase the number of seats in the Lok Sabha. As part of the proposed delimitation of constituencies and the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill, fresh proposals have reportedly been circulated among Members of Parliament for review.
According to initial estimates, the number of Lok Sabha seats in states could rise up to 815, while Union Territories may see an additional 35 seats. If implemented, the total strength of the Lower House could reach around 850, marking a substantial expansion in parliamentary representation across the country.
