In the IPL 2026 clash against Rajasthan Royals, Abhishek Sharma of Sunrisers Hyderabad was dismissed on the very first ball, marking a disappointing outing. Attempting an aggressive shot off Jofra Archer, he was caught by Ravi Bishnoi, resulting in a golden duck. With this dismissal, Abhishek registered an unwanted record as only the second SRH batter to get out on the first ball in IPL history, following Shikhar Dhawan, who faced a similar fate in 2018.
The setback also places Abhishek Sharma at the top of an unfortunate list, having recorded the most ducks by an Indian player in a single calendar year in T20 cricket, with seven dismissals. He is followed by Rohit Sharma and Sanju Samson, who each have six. Meanwhile, Archer achieved his fourth instance of taking a wicket on the very first ball in IPL, while Mohammed Shami leads the chart with five such wickets. Notably, Rajasthan Royals have now taken a wicket on the first ball 24 times in IPL history, the highest by any team, ahead of Mumbai Indians.
