Special teams of the Secunderabad Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) have arrested two inter-state thieves involved in zipper thefts on trains today. The police recovered gold ornaments weighing 21 tolas (210 grams), worth about ₹25 lakh, from the accused.
The arrested persons were identified as Kokila Maniraju (39) from Karnataka and S. Deena (27) from Tamil Nadu. Officials said both are habitual offenders. On December 2, they booked AC coach tickets on the Nanded Express and boarded the train at Visakhapatnam posing as passengers. While travelling up to Charlapalli, they opened the bags of two women passengers and stole purses containing gold jewellery.
After the theft, the accused changed coaches and got down at Charlapalli. Police tracked their movements and caught them on Thursday around 8 am near Gate No. 2 of Secunderabad Railway Station while they were preparing for another theft. The accused were later produced before the court, officials said.
