After battling severe air pollution over the past few days, Delhi witnessed a noticeable improvement in air quality on Wednesday morning (December 25, 2025). According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the city’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 221 at around 8 am, placing it in the ‘Poor’ category.
This marks a significant improvement from December 24, when AQI levels remained above 300. Strong winds and favourable weather conditions since late Tuesday night helped disperse pollutants, leading to a sharp decline in pollution levels across the national capital.
Following the improvement, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) revoked Stage-IV restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the NCR. However, light smog persists in pockets such as Anand Vihar and Bawana, while areas like Aya Nagar and Najafgarh have recorded ‘Moderate’ air quality. Weather agencies IMD and IITM cautioned that a drop in wind speed could trigger a rise in AQI again, though the current respite has brought relief to residents.
