The Delhi High Court has directed the Review Committee under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to examine a petition seeking the restoration of the X account belonging to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). The plea was filed by Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the satirical political outfit, who challenged the Centre’s decision to withhold the account in India. The petition also alleged that several associated social media accounts and the party’s website were either blocked or compromised during the action.
Hearing the matter, Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav instructed the MeitY Review Committee to consider the grievance and take an appropriate decision in accordance with the law. The Cockroach Janta Party recently gained significant attention on social media through content focused on unemployment, governance, and political accountability. According to reports, the party’s X account was withheld in India following directives based on national security concerns. Dipke has argued that the action violates the constitutional right to freedom of speech and expression and has sought immediate restoration of the account.
