Government employees across Andhra Pradesh say they are experiencing increasing uncertainty and stress due to administrative actions taken after the new coalition government came to power. Many workers feel they are getting caught in political crossfire between rival parties.
Several employee unions state that during the previous YSRCP government, staff members faced difficulties of one kind, and they hoped that a change in regime would ease the pressure. However, many now claim that the situation has not improved and, in some cases, has become even more complicated.
A recent government order seeking action against three former municipal commissioners and 43 employees, including working and retired staff, has raised concerns within employee circles. The move came following a complaint filed by Proddatur MLA Nandhyal Varadarajulu Reddy regarding alleged irregularities during the previous government’s tenure.
Employee unions say that taking action for proven violations is acceptable, but using it as a tool to target groups associated with an earlier administration creates fear among staff. They argue that the approach should be systemic, not selective.
In another incident, five police personnel escorting NRI Malempati Bhaskar Reddy were suspended after photos emerged of the team stopping for food while transporting him to jail in connection with objectionable social media posts. This action also created concerns among police staff about strict surveillance and disciplinary measures.
The sudden death of Railway CI Satish Kumar, who was under SIT investigation in the Parakamani case, sparked controversy. Opposition parties alleged harassment, while the ruling coalition claimed that there were deeper reasons behind the incident. With conflicting versions in circulation, police employees say the situation has caused psychological distress among field officers.
Employee associations highlight that several police officers perceived as close to the previous government have not received postings for months, while some remain under suspension. They claim that decisions influenced by political complaints create job insecurity and low morale.
Many government staff who supported the coalition during elections also express disappointment, stating that they expected administrative stability, not increased targeting. They fear that whenever power changes hands, they become the first targets of political retaliation.
Employee unions urge the government to ensure transparent processes, clear guidelines, and a system where staff can function without fear of political repercussions. They say that without administrative neutrality, employees cannot perform their duties peacefully.
