Fremont, California: In a shocking incident, an Indian-origin man, Varun Suresh (29), has been charged with murder for fatally stabbing a registered sex offender in Fremont last week. The accused was detained at the scene, and police recovered a knife from him. The victim, identified as David Brimmer (71), was declared dead on the spot. This marks Fremont’s fifth homicide of the year.
Police said they received a call at 12:01 pm on September 18 about a violent altercation at Upper Vintners Circle. Upon arrival, officers found Brimmer with severe stab wounds. Despite immediate trauma care, he was unresponsive.
Court documents revealed that Suresh used the Megan’s Law database, which provides public access to registered sex offenders, to locate Brimmer. Brimmer, who had served nine years in prison for sexual assault on a minor, reportedly had no personal connection with Suresh.
According to investigators, Suresh posed as a certified public accountant to approach the victim’s house. When Brimmer attempted to flee, Suresh chased him for two blocks into a neighbor’s garage and kitchen, where he allegedly stabbed him in the neck, demanding that he “repent.” Brimmer attempted to crawl away, but Suresh then cut his throat.
During interrogation, Suresh admitted to targeting Brimmer due to his age and vulnerability, adding that killing was “honestly really fun.” He further stated, “I don’t like paedophiles. They deserve to die.” He also told police that he did not attempt to escape and would have called them himself if they hadn’t arrived.
Along with the murder charge, Suresh faces counts of residential burglary and use of a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury. Authorities confirmed he has a prior criminal record, including a 2021 arrest in Fremont for burglary, false bomb threats, and criminal intimidation. He is also facing another case with Walnut Creek police.
