In the Baramati Assembly by-election in Maharashtra, Sunetra Pawar, wife of former NCP leader and ex deputy CM Ajit Pawar, is set to win unopposed. The Congress party withdrew its candidate, ensuring that Sunetra Pawar will contest the April 23 by-election unchallenged.
On Thursday morning, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called Congress state unit chief Harshwardhan Sapkal to request the withdrawal of their candidate. Following this, Congress withdrew their candidate as a mark of respect to Ajit Pawar, making Sunetra Pawar the unopposed winner. Initially, Congress had fielded Akash More for this by-election.
