The free bus travel scheme for women under the Mahalakshmi initiative has brought major financial relief, with savings reaching nearly ₹10,000 crore, according to Telangana State Road Transport Corporation. The transport corporation stated that women have used over 290 crore zero-ticket rides since the scheme was introduced.
This initiative has significantly increased the number of women passengers, with their share rising from 40% to 67%. It shows how the scheme has made public transport more accessible and convenient for women across the state.
Earlier, women used to spend around ₹1,500 to ₹2,500 on travel expenses. With free bus services now available, they are able to save this amount every month, helping them manage their household expenses better.
