In a stern move to ensure food safety, the Railway Ministry has imposed a massive fine of ₹50 lakh on a private caterer and ₹10 lakh on IRCTC after live insects were found in a curd packet served on the Patna-Tatanagar Vande Bharat Express. The incident came to light on March 10, when a passenger discovered the worms after consuming half of the Amul curd provided during the journey.
When the onboard catering staff allegedly ignored his initial complaint, the passenger recorded a video of the contaminated food and shared it on social media, sparking widespread public outrage. Taking immediate cognizance of the viral video, the Railway Board initiated a probe and found the catering services negligent. Consequently, the caterer's contract was summarily cancelled in addition to the heavy fine. The authorities reiterated their "Zero Tolerance" policy regarding food quality, emphasizing that such lapses compromise passenger health and the reputation of the premium train service.
