An explosion caused by illegally stored firecrackers triggered a major fire on Sunday night in Visakhapatnam. The incident occurred in Mahatma Adarshanagar under GVMC Ward 89. According to reports, D. Shivakrishna Kumar alias “Bombula Shiva” (40) had rented a house near a local cremation ground and was allegedly manufacturing and selling firecrackers there without authorization. It is believed that a large quantity of explosive materials had been stored in the house in preparation for upcoming festivities scheduled on the 18th of this month.
At around 8 PM on Sunday, thick smoke and flames suddenly emerged from the house, followed by a series of explosions. The impact of the blasts damaged the walls and slabs of the house, with debris falling onto the roofs of nearby sheds. Several neighboring houses developed cracks in their walls, while household items and a two-wheeler inside the house were completely destroyed. A woman sustained minor injuries after being struck by pieces of the slab and was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment. Local residents reported that the sound of the explosions was heard up to three kilometers away.
Upon receiving the information, police officials rushed to the scene and assessed the situation. The accused, Bombula Shiva, who allegedly stored the firecrackers, fled the spot after the incident. Firefighters from the Marripalem Fire Station arrived promptly and managed to bring the flames under control. A case has been registered, and the investigation is currently being carried out under the supervision of CI Sanyasi Naidu.
