The second phase of the Hyderabad Metro expansion has received a green signal, according to reports. After the state government took over the first phase project from L&T, approvals for the Detailed Project Reports of Phase-2 are expected soon from the Centre.
Metro has become a key mode of public transport in Hyderabad, with increasing demand due to its speed and convenience. The state government has proposed eight new corridors covering key areas including the airport, Old City, and Medchal to improve city-wide connectivity.
The project will be executed as a 50:50 partnership between the Centre and the State. With the first phase now fully under government control, major hurdles for Phase-2 have been cleared. Construction is likely to begin first on the Old City and Airport corridors once approvals are granted.
