

The municipal elections being held in the state have received a massive response. The nomination process has concluded for a total of 2,996 wards across 7 corporations and 116 municipalities. A total of 22,519 candidates filed 29,742 nominations, with officials stating that an average of 9 to 10 candidates are contesting for each ward. It is noteworthy that on the last day alone, 20,460 nominations were received from 13,815 candidates.
Party-wise, the Congress party filed the highest number of nominations with 10,046. This was followed by BRS with 7,564 and BJP with 5,462 nominations. Jana Sena Party filed 342 nominations, and TDP filed 32. YSRCP filed only one nomination, while the Forward Bloc party showed enthusiasm to contest under the lion symbol. Among the left parties, CPI filed 260 nominations and CPI(M) filed 277. MIM filed 576, BSP 324, and AAP 51 nominations. Candidates have until the 3rd of next month to withdraw their nominations, and polling will be held on the 11th of next month.
