Tension erupted in Ghanpur mandal of Telangana during the Panchayat elections after Congress candidate Sindhu won by just one vote over her BRS rival in Solipur village. Dissatisfied with the result, BRS supporters staged a protest demanding a recount.
Even after the recount confirmed the same result, the BRS cadre continued their agitation, leading to heated arguments between them and the police. As the situation worsened, police resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the crowd, injuring several people.
In retaliation, some BRS supporters pelted stones at the police, further escalating the tension. Additional police forces were deployed immediately and Section 144 was imposed in the village. The District SP and Collector rushed to the spot to review the situation.
