After launching focused operations against Maoists, the central government has now shifted its attention to militancy in the northeastern states. The Union Home Ministry is reportedly aiming to make the Northeast a militancy free region by 2029, with Manipur being the first major focus area.
Central Armed Police Forces are expected to be deployed for the operations. Some forces previously engaged in Maoist-affected regions may be reassigned to the Northeast. Anti militancy measures are likely to be intensified in Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland. Officials estimate that around 16 militant groups are active across the northeastern region.
