As part of the 2027 Census, the government is launching a self-enumeration process. Starting Sunday, citizens have been provided the opportunity to register the details of their family members online. This service will be available on the website daily—between 6:00 AM and 12:00 AM (midnight)—until May 10. Those who complete the self-enumeration process will be issued a reference number; the census official visiting their home will then verify the details based on this number. For those who do not opt for self-enumeration, officials will visit their homes personally to record the details.
The census comprises a total of 33 questions. Of these, answers to 27 questions can be provided during the self-enumeration stage. The remaining questions will be recorded by the census official. Information is required only regarding aspects such as household details, available amenities, and caste. Details concerning assets or Aadhaar numbers are not required. Officials have clarified that individuals must register for the census at their current place of residence. Students living in hostels and employed individuals must also register at their present residential addresses.
From May 11 onwards, enumerators will go door-to-door to collect details. In the first phase, numbers will be assigned to buildings. In the second phase, comprehensive information regarding each individual will be recorded. This process is scheduled to continue through February 2027. Details regarding homeless individuals living on the streets will also be collected separately. Thousands of enumerators across the state are set to participate in this exercise. Officials are urging the public to ensure the success of this process by providing accurate information.
