The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has won the Bangladesh parliamentary elections. The party announced that it had won 212 seats in the 299-seat parliament along with its allies. With these results, the chances of forming a new government under the leadership of BNP leader Tariq Rahman have become clear.
The Jamaat-e-Islami party won 70 seats, while the remaining seats were won by other parties and independent candidates. Tariq Rahman contested from Dhaka-17 and Bogra-6 constituencies and won in both. However, the official results are yet to be announced.
Tariq Rahman asked party workers to postpone the victory celebrations and hold only simple prayers after the death of his mother Khaleda a few days before the elections.
