The Andhra Pradesh Government has officially declared the birth anniversary of social reformer Dommeti Venkata Reddy as a state festival, recognizing his remarkable contributions to society. Honouring a promise made during the Yuvagalam padayatra, Minister Nara Lokesh ensured the issuance of a Government Order (GO) to celebrate his Jayanti annually on March 23. Dommeti Venkata Reddy is widely revered as a guiding figure by the Shettibalija community for his efforts in promoting education, unity, and social upliftment.
Born on March 23, 1853, in a farming family, he pursued education in Amalapuram and later established himself as a successful businessman in Burma. In 1905, he founded the Shettibalija Welfare Association, significantly contributing to community development. His legacy continues through institutions and memorials, including a Kalyana Mandapam in Amalapuram and his statue in Rajamahendravaram. The government has directed all departments to organize official celebrations every year, marking his enduring impact on society.
