The rush of devotees at the Medaram Sammakka – Saralamma Maha Jatara has reached an all-time high, said Revenue, Housing and Information & Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. He stated that around 80 lakh devotees have already visited the shrine, and the number is expected to cross one crore by the time of the Sammakka Gadde ritual. Devotees are arriving in large numbers from Telangana as well as neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.
For the permanent development of Medaram, the government has already acquired 29 acres of land, while the process to acquire another 41 acres is underway, the minister said. Permanent infrastructure will be developed across nearly 70 acres, including cottages, function halls, additional toilets and bathing facilities. A comprehensive master plan has been prepared to improve internal roads, establish eco-parks and expand tourism facilities in the region.
To enhance the importance of Medaram Jatara, popularly known as the South Indian Kumbh Mela, the government has initiated a temple circuit from Basara to Bhadrachalam at a cost of Rs 2,500 crore. Steps are also being taken to ensure year-round water availability in the Jampanna Vagu through check dams and pipeline projects. Minister Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka) said 70 to 80 lakh devotees visited within just two days and credited Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s vision for the rapid completion of development works. The ministers urged devotees not to believe misinformation circulating on social media.
