Tovino Thomas recently revealed that he opted out of the NTR–Neel project due to date constraints, highlighting the difference in work culture between Malayalam and Telugu industries. He explained that Malayalam films are usually completed in one stretch, allowing actors to work on multiple projects in a year, unlike in Telugu where schedules are spread out over longer periods. This has sparked a debate on which filmmaking model is more efficient.
With medium-budget films in Tollywood facing challenges due to rising costs and weak non-theatrical markets, industry experts suggest adopting faster production cycles. Completing films in fewer working days and releasing them quickly could ease financial pressure on producers. There is also a growing call for stars to increase their output and manage budgets more carefully, taking inspiration from the Kerala filmmaking model.
