Vishal Bhardwaj Opens Up About Shooting Intimate Scenes

Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj has highlighted the growing importance of intimacy directors and coordinators in modern cinema while recalling the difficulties of filming intimate scenes earlier in his career. He said that before intimacy coordinators became more common in the industry, actresses would sometimes approach him with questions about how intimate a scene would be and ask him to clarify those details with their male co-stars. Bhardwaj recalled that having to relay such questions could create an awkward situation on set.

Bhardwaj said the experience was considerably easier while filming his segment for the upcoming Netflix anthology ‘Lust Stories 3’, as it featured real-life married couple Aditi Rao Hydari and Siddharth. According to the filmmaker, the actors were naturally comfortable with each other, which reduced much of the awkwardness during intimate scenes. He also said the couple chose not to use body doubles during the shoot.
