Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited farewell film ‘Jana Nayagan’ has reportedly registered a worldwide opening of around Rs 80 crore gross. While the figure represents a strong start in general terms, trade reports suggest it is among Vijay’s lower opening-day totals in recent years. The action drama has received largely negative reviews, with criticism particularly focused on its second half and villain track. Reports also suggest that repeated postponements and piracy may have affected the film’s opening-day performance.
Given Vijay’s box-office stature and the enormous expectations surrounding what has been promoted as his farewell film, the reported opening has attracted considerable attention. The film’s performance over the coming days will now depend heavily on audience turnout and word of mouth. Directed by H. Vinoth, ‘Jana Nayagan’ features Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju and Bobby Deol in prominent roles alongside Vijay.
