Time-travel films remain relatively rare in Indian cinema. The 1990 classic ‘Aditya 369’, starring Balakrishna and directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, explored the past, present and future through its time-travel storyline. Now, there is growing discussion that Mahesh Babu and SS Rajamouli’s upcoming global project ‘Varanasi’ could also feature a similar concept. The makers have reportedly indicated that time travel is an important element of the film.
According to the latest buzz, the story may not be limited to the past and present, but could also travel into the future. Reports suggest that sequences set around 2070 or beyond may be part of the narrative. This has sparked curiosity over whether ‘Varanasi’ will explore three different time periods. Priyanka Chopra, Prithviraj Sukumaran and others are part of the cast. Produced by SS Karthikeya and KL Narayana, the film is scheduled for a worldwide release on April 7, 2027.
