

The life story of Padma Shri awardee Daripalli Ramayya, popularly known as “Koti Mokkala Ramayya” (the man who planted a million trees), has now been brought to the big screen. The biopic titled “Vanajeevi Ramayya”, based on his inspiring journey of protecting nature, has been selected in the Best Short Films category at the prestigious Gaddar Awards presented by the Telangana government. The film is directed by Nandi Award winner Vemuganti and produced by Nidigondu Naresh Kumar Prajapati, Busam Ravindranath, and Lingampalli Chandrasekhar, with music composed by Ballepalli Mohan.
A special preview of the film was recently held at Prasad Labs in Hyderabad. Several notable personalities attended the screening and appreciated the film and its team. Among them were Telangana Cultural Sarathi Chairperson Vennela, TJS Chief Professor Kodandaram, political analysts V. Prakash and Tanneeru Babu Rao, along with film personalities Tanikella Bharani and Tammareddy Bharadwaja. The film team also announced plans to release the biopic in multiple Indian languages soon.
Daripalli Ramayya, who belonged to Reddypalli village, earned a unique identity through his dedication to environmental protection. He traveled to many villages spreading the message “Vruksho Rakshati Rakshitah” and encouraged people to plant and protect trees. He introduced the practice of gifting plant saplings during celebrations and regularly collected and scattered seeds in forest areas. Although he passed away in April las year, his work and message continue to inspire many. Through this biopic, his life and contributions are expected to reach a wider audience.
