In a cheque bounce case, the Madras High Court has issued crucial directions to the producer of the film Kochadaiiyaan (released in Telugu as Vikramasimha). The court ordered that ₹2.5 crore be paid to Ad Bureau Advertising Private Limited within four weeks, failing which the producer will have to undergo six months of imprisonment.
The dispute relates to the 2014 3D motion-capture film Kochadaiiyaan, starring superstar Rajinikanth and directed by his daughter Soundarya. For the film’s production requirements, Murali Manohar, one of the directors of Media One Global Entertainment Limited, had availed a loan from Bengaluru-based Ad Bureau Advertising Private Limited. As part of the repayment, Murali Manohar issued a cheque for ₹5 crore in 2014 to Ad Bureau’s Managing Director, Abir Chand Nahar. However, the cheque was dishonoured, leading to legal proceedings.
Earlier, the trial court had sentenced Murali Manohar to six months of imprisonment in this case. Challenging that verdict, he approached the Madras High Court. After hearing the matter, the High Court reiterated that the amount of ₹2.5 crore must be paid within the stipulated time, making it clear that failure to comply would result in the enforcement of the jail sentence.
