Making diverse films has always been second nature to him. A filmmaker who became a benchmark for experimental cinema. A cinematic sage who stunned the film world by creating a full-length movie without dialogues. He is none other than the legendary director Singeetam Srinivasa Rao. After a long hiatus, Singeetam Srinivasa Rao is set to return to cinema at the age of 94, once again taking up the megaphone. A new film under his direction is currently taking shape, generating considerable buzz within film circles. The project is being produced by the prestigious Vyjayanthi Movies banner, while Rockstar Devi Sri Prasad is composing the music an exciting combination in itself.
The film was recently launched with formal pooja ceremonies, following which the production house released an official announcement video. The visuals of Singeetam Srinivasa Rao actively working, echoing the spirit of “centuries are meant to be scored at this age,” struck an emotional chord. The video also featured heartfelt tributes from actors and filmmakers, reminiscing about his extraordinary talent and illustrious journey. Details regarding the film’s title and cast will be revealed soon. Notably, this marks the 61st film in Singeetam Srinivasa Rao’s remarkable career.
Singeetam Srinivasa Rao made his directorial debut in 1972 with Neethi–Nijayithi and went on to create several timeless classics. It would not be an exaggeration to say that no other filmmaker in Indian cinema has attempted as many bold and innovative experiments as he has. With Mayuri, he inspired countless audiences. He earned global acclaim by directing Pushpaka Vimana, a silent film in the talkie era a rare cinematic feat. He astonished viewers by portraying Kamal Haasan in a three-foot-tall role in Apoorva Sagodharargal (Vichitra Sodharulu). Through Aditya 369, he took audiences on a journey across time. At a time when mass and commercial cinema dominated screens, he reaffirmed his uniqueness with the folklore fantasy Bhairava Dweepam.
His last directorial venture was Welcome Obama in 2013. More recently, he contributed invaluable insights to Nag Ashwin’s science-fiction epic Kalki 2898 AD. Now, after all these years, Singeetam Srinivasa Rao is once again stepping behind the camera with the same enthusiasm, calling out “Action” much to the delight of cinema lovers.
