White or grey hair is not always a bad sign; in fact, it may be a sign of good health, according to scientists. Health professionals claim that oxidative stress in the body, in particular, or genetic or cellular factors can cause premature greying of the hair. Greying may result from this process's reduction in the synthesis of melanin, the pigment that gives hair its color.
Additionally, experts explained that hair naturally turns white or grey over time when melanin production declines. In certain instances, this may indicate more than just aging but also healthy cell renewal. They added that it is a normal biological process for the number of active melanocytes (cells that produce melanin) to decrease with age.
Medical researchers went on to explain that melanin not only controls hair color but also shields it from harm. They noted that although diet, stress, and lifestyle choices can hasten graying, they do not always signify ill health. Actually, rather than being a sign of disease, grey hair is just a reflection of body balance and genetic characteristics for some people.
