In today’s lifestyle, factors such as chemical pollution, prolonged mobile phone and screen use, and inadequate sleep can affect overall eye health. Nutrients including omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamins C and E, and vitamin A play important roles in supporting the retina. Flaxseeds are a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, while pumpkin seeds and hemp seeds provide nutrients such as zinc, lutein and zeaxanthin.
Vitamins C and E help protect eye cells from oxidative stress and support cellular health. Sunflower seeds provide vitamin E, while guava and amla are rich sources of vitamin C. Vitamin A is essential for normal vision, colour recognition and preventing night blindness, with leafy greens such as drumstick leaves, curry leaves and coriander serving as useful sources. Along with a nutritious diet, getting 7–8 hours of sleep, taking regular breaks from screens and giving the eyes adequate rest are also important for maintaining eye health.
