A large-scale eye screening programme has been launched for school students across the district, with a target of examining around 1.90 lakh children during the current academic year. Last year, eye tests were conducted for 66,000 government school students, among whom 3,815 students received free spectacles and 75 were recommended for surgeries. This year, the initiative has been expanded to include both government and private school students.
A total of 12 medical teams will conduct the eye examinations, with seven teams currently carrying out screenings. The process will cover students aged between 10 and 18 years from residential schools, government high schools, KGBVs, model schools and private institutions in phases. The authorities aim to complete the screenings by February next year and provide spectacles and necessary medical support to students requiring assistance.
