Guava leaves may offer certain health benefits for people managing diabetes. The bioactive compounds present in the leaves are believed to help slow down the breakdown of carbohydrates into glucose, which may support better control of post-meal blood sugar spikes. Chewing tender guava leaves or consuming them as herbal tea is a traditional practice. However, guava leaves should not be considered a replacement for prescribed diabetes medication, and regular blood sugar monitoring remains essential.
Rich in vitamin C, flavonoids and other antioxidants, guava leaves may also support overall health. To prepare guava leaf tea, wash five to six tender leaves, boil them in two glasses of water until the quantity reduces by half, strain and drink while warm. Studies are also exploring their potential role in digestion and cholesterol management. Since the effects can vary from person to person, individuals taking diabetes medication should consult a doctor before regularly adding guava leaf tea to their diet.
