Food and water are very important for our health. However, when and how we consume them also affects the body. According to Ayurveda, the time of eating and drinking water play a key role in digestion. Many people drink a lot of water during or immediately after meals. Others drink very little water throughout the day. Such habits can disrupt the balance of the digestive system. This can lead to problems like a feeling of heaviness in the stomach, gas, indigestion, bloating or acidity.
In many cases, people ignore these symptoms, considering them minor problems. But if such habits continue for a long time, there is a risk of digestive problems worsening. That is why it is very important to maintain a balance between the way you eat and drink water. By doing so, the digestive system can function properly and the body can absorb the nutrients in the food properly.
According to Dr. R.P. Parashar, Director of Ayurveda, Government of Delhi, Ayurveda advises not to drink too much water during meals. If necessary, you can drink a little warm water. Experts say that it is generally better to drink water about 30 minutes after a meal. Also, drinking water with a gap of some time before a meal is helpful for digestion.
