Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford, explained how drinking green tea daily for two weeks may positively impact overall health. According to Dr. Sethi, green tea contains powerful antioxidants called catechins, especially EGCG, which may help reduce liver inflammation and support metabolic health. He clarified that green tea is not a magical detox solution but can support the liver’s natural functioning when consumed regularly and in moderation.
Dr. Sethi also noted that green tea may help improve metabolism and insulin sensitivity, making it a useful addition to a balanced lifestyle focused on weight management. Unlike coffee, green tea provides a gentler energy boost because it contains less caffeine along with L-theanine, an amino acid linked to calmness and focus. He recommended consuming one to three cups daily while avoiding concentrated green tea extract supplements, which have been associated with rare cases of liver injury.
