One of the remarkable trees gifted by nature is the Flame of the Forest, commonly known as the Moduga tree. During the spring season, its bright red flowers bloom beautifully and are admired for both their appearance and medicinal value. During the festival of Holi, these flowers can be boiled in water to prepare a natural and safe color instead of using chemical-based dyes, making them beneficial and gentle on the skin. In ancient times, Moduga flowers and branches were also considered sacred and were widely used in religious rituals, yajnas, and traditional ceremonies.
According to Ayurveda, Moduga flowers possess strong antiseptic and antibacterial properties. When the dried flowers are powdered and mixed with water to form a paste, applying it on the skin can help reduce acne, itching, fungal infections, and skin rashes. During the summer season, soaking these flowers in water overnight and bathing with that water the next day helps cool the body. Drinking this infused water may also provide relief from heatstroke.
The juice of Moduga flowers is believed to help improve eyesight and reduce eye infections, though it should only be used with proper medical guidance. The decoction prepared from these flowers is also considered helpful in relieving burning sensations during urination, dissolving kidney stones, and reducing urinary tract infections. Additionally, Moduga flowers are known to help lower blood sugar levels, making them beneficial for managing diabetes. They may also aid digestion, and the decoction is traditionally used as a remedy for intestinal worm infections in children.
