Fruit custard is generally considered a healthy dessert. However, the use of white sugar and custard powder significantly increases its calorie content. As a healthier alternative, this new recipe suggested by Prakhar completely removes sugar and artificial custard powder, replacing them with makhana (lotus seeds) to prepare a nutritious custard. This makhana custard is low in calories while also providing the natural nutrients found in fruits. One bowl contains only around 200 to 230 calories, along with 7 to 9 grams of protein, 30 to 35 grams of carbohydrates, and 6 to 7 grams of healthy fats. Ready in just a few minutes, this dessert serves as a wholesome and guilt-free option.
To prepare this sugar-free and gluten-free custard, ingredients required include one-fourth cup of makhana, one tablespoon of dry fruits powder, a pinch of saffron, half a teaspoon of honey (optional), three-fourths cup of low-fat milk and fruits such as apple, kiwi, pomegranate seeds, banana and black grapes. First, soak the makhana, dry fruits powder and saffron in a little milk until softened, then blend it with honey into a smooth puree. Pour this makhana puree over the chopped fruits, mix gently, and refrigerate for about 20 minutes to get a chilled custard. Compared to regular custard, this version offers higher amounts of fiber, magnesium, vitamins and antioxidants. It is an excellent healthy sweet option for those trying to lose weight or people managing diabetes.
