In recent days, social media has been flooded with claims that eggs from certain brands contain residues of the banned antibiotic Nitrofuran, which could increase cancer risk. Addressing these rumours, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued an important clarification.
According to doctors and health experts, eggs sold in India are completely safe for consumption. Medical professionals have clearly stated that eating eggs daily does not cause cancer and there is no scientific evidence supporting such claims.
Doctors explain that eggs are a complete source of protein and are rich in essential nutrients such as vitamins A, B12, D, and E, iron, zinc, and choline. These nutrients help improve muscle strength, brain function, eye health, bone strength, and immunity. Eggs are especially beneficial for women and children, doctors add.
FSSAI has clarified that the use of Nitrofuran in poultry and egg production is strictly banned in India. Based on scientific evidence, doctors confirm that even trace exposure does not pose any cancer or serious health risk.
Medical experts recommend consuming boiled eggs or lightly cooked eggs with minimal oil for better health. Fried eggs should be eaten in moderation due to oil content. Combining eggs with boiled vegetables is considered a healthy dietary choice.
